Pondera is a family owned, boutique winery established in 2005.  We specialize in the production of high quality, well balanced red and white varietals and red blends made from grapes sourced from some of Washington’s most highly regarded vineyards.  Each wine is very limited with our production just under 3000 cases annually.

Owner/winemaker, Shane Howard, has proven his ability for creating outstanding wines year after year, consistently winning Gold, Double Gold and “Diamond of the Decade” awards from competitions across the state.  This year he was honored as one of the 2021 Washington Wine Award “ Winemakers of the Year”.

Most of our wines are sold direct to our Wine Club and to tasting room guests.  We age our wines longer in barrel and bottle than most wineries, so they are ready to drink upon release.  Our plan is to stay small, keeping a hands on approach to producing outstanding hand-crafted wines in limited quantities.   We invite you to become a member of our Wine Club so you may enjoy and share our wines with your friends and family at home.  Cheers!

2017 Pondera "Stiletto" Bordeaux Style Red Blend - $42 - 90 Points

With the name "Stiletto" one might expect a more feminine wine that what this 2017 delivers from Woodinville's popular Pondera Winery. There's a lot of masculinity going on with 63% Cab driving, yet the passengers aren't exactly quiet with equal parts Malbec and Petit Verdot fighting for attention and a little Merlot quietly playing the role of peacekeeper. They gave it a fun name so we needed to give it a fun write-up. But the wine has the signature of a serious wine with a creamy texture, dark, brooding fruit, and a bit of dry tannin and very dark chocolate on the finish. The wine is as interesting as the painting it was named after.

2018 Pondera Malbec - $34 - 93 Points

Let's just start off with Wow! Delicious. All 4 judges were impressed with this Malbec, with no idea of its maker or price. When the $34 price tag was eventually revealed, we had already assumed it was much more expensive, elevating its score to 93. It has the signature blueberry and ripe blackberry you'd expect, but also a rich, creamy texture and long, elegant finish, a signature for a polished, hand-crafted, limited production wine. If you can afford it, buy a case, you'll be glad you did.

2020 Pondera Winery Viognier -
$26 - 93 Points

Tasting blind, the first impression the judges had? We loved the balance. Just the right amount of fruit, texture, and acid. While some Viognier's can get little overly tropical or floral, this version is restrained just enough to still be classic, but not overwhelming. Expect subtle stone fruits, along with quince, ripe white peach, and a Meyer Lemon finish. Intriguing wine - and the perfect alternative for wine enthusiasts who like rich whites without the heavy oak of a Chardonnay. Delicious and the second highest score we've ever given a Washington white to date.
